News Slab: Prime news cuts from the metal and rock worldFRIDAY, JULY 11/08. - VAN HALEN, RUSH, MAIDEN & OZZY - IN POLLSTARS TOP 100 TOURS FOR FIRST 1/2 OF 08'.
Looks like "old-school" is dominating the tour industry. Too goddamn bad, cus' alot of the 'newer' acts deserve some of these tour-bucks, for busting their asses year after year. VAN HALEN, RUSH, IRON MAIDEN, OZZY OSBOURNE and DEF LEPPARD are among the artists on Pollstar's Top 100 Tours chart for the first six months of North America concert action in 2008. According to Pollstar.com, BON JOVI holds down the first position on the chart with an an average ticket price of $87.98 resulting in a total gross of $56.3 million for 39 shows. By the time that tour ends in mid-July, the band will have completed its biggest tour ever in North America. As successful as the band has been here, the BON JOVI juggernaut is even bigger overseas. On a worldwide basis the act has sold nearly 1.7 million tickets in just the first six months of this year. No one else comes close to that number. Hard rock/metal artists on Pollstar's Top 100 Tours for the first half of 2008:
#3 - VAN HALEN Check out the entire list, RIGHT HERE Thanks Blabb. EX-KORN GUITARIST, 'HEAD' - NEW SINGLE, "FLUSH", SURPRISE!! - IT'S BETTER THAN 'KORNS KRAP'!
Who'd ever thought since switching to team-Jesus, Brian 'Head' Welch would put out a track that rivals anything Korn's done in the last 5 yrs?? "Flush", off his solo release, "Save Me From Myself", is suprisingly better than what Davis & co. have been mass-producing as off late. I mean really... check it out yourself click Tickle me Jesus Doesn't mean it'll have me getting religious, but fuck.............. ..........can you imagine the look on Davis' face when he first heard this? The Pulse of Radio reports: Ex-KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch's new single, called "Flush", became available on iTunes earlier this week and is already making its way onto rock radio stations around the country. The track is taken from Welch's debut solo album, "Save Me From Myself", which has been set for release on September 9. Welch told The Pulse of Radio what it was like for him to write an entire album on his own for the first time. "You know, after three or four successful albums with the guys in KORN, I really was striving to write like, you know, to keep up the success, and it started to become not fun, " he said. "So this album, I had fun and let it come to me. It was really peaceful and exciting, you know, to do it that way, and there was no pressure to be popular or nothing. I just did whatever I felt inside, you know." Welch's album shares its title with his memoir, "Save Me from Myself: How I Found God, Quit Korn, Kicked Drugs, and Lived to Tell My Story", which was published last year. Welch left KORN in early 2005 to devote his life to Christianity. He announced his departure from the band, as well as his embrace of Christ, in front of 10,000 people at a Bakersfield, California mega-church. Welch said that his life as a rock star and addictions to numerous drugs were destroying his life and his relationship with his daughter. Thanks Blabb. LAMB OF GOD'S 'WALK WITH ME IN HELL' - DVD DEBUTS AT #2, GOES GOLD!
Fuckin' eh! LOG rule my bray!! Lamb of God's new double-disc DVD, "Walk With Me In Hell, " debuted at #2 on Billboard's Video Music Chart selling over 13,000 units this week. The DVD shipped gold in its first week and the Richmond natives were a close second to pop loser John Mayer. The band's prior DVD, the platinum-certified "Killadelphia, " sold 8,000 in its first week of release, and debuted at # 4 on the charts. With its incredible first week success, "Walk With Me In Hell" is poised to far surpass its predecessor. Drummer Chris Adler commented on the initial success of the double DVD: "We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated fans and friends across the world. This incredible achievement is a very proud moment for all of us. Our journey over the past 2 years has been nothing short of amazing, and we thank you all for joining us." The "Walk With Me In Hell" two-DVD set features over five hours of incredible, all-access footage. Disc 1 contains the highly anticipated feature documentary and multiple live performance extras from across the globe on the Sacrament World Tour. Disc 2 includes the additional full-length feature "Making of Sacrament" plus Lamb of God's entire, uncut, brutal performance at the Download Festival 2007, where they performed in front of over 72,000 fans. Extras include deleted scenes, live performance videos for various tour stops, the official music video for "Redneck, " and a "Making of Redneck" documentary. Go pick it up! Thanks The Gauntlet. DIVINE HERESY - IS THIS BAND ON LIFE-SUPPORT? Is this bunch gonna pull itself together... ....or not? After punting Tommy Vex's ass out of the band a couple of months ago, they've stumbled along with a 'replacement' who obviously ain't working out. Would be a fuckin' shame for the band to implode, if only cus' drummer Tim Yuen is freaking amazing! Here's Dino's Official press release:
"There has been much speculation ("betting on it dying") as of late to the status of Divine Heresy's lead singer situation ("fired") after their last tour, and the band is now going back to the drawing board ("desparate") to explore more options. If you are interested in trying out for the position, ("becoming slave to Dino") you need to go to the group's MySpace page to download some instrumental tracks. You will need to record your vocals on them and submit them back to Divineheresyband@AOL.com along with a bio, any possible photos and contact info. Vocal tracks should be as organic ("please sound like Burton") as possible. No autotune or vocal effects, excessive reverb, etc." Divine Heresy recently completed a very successful ('Dino didn't fire anyone else") run as part of the "Tyranny and Bloodshred Tour, " and will now spend the summer months writing material for their much anticipated, ("yawn") sophomore release. However, the group does plan on playing a few dates in Mexico and South America this August. Thanks Lambgoat. DAVID LEE ROTH - 'LIKES NUTS AFTER ALL'.
Looks like Roth like nuts after all. His "incident" with Canadian cops has tiurned out to be not-entirely true. TMZ has this report: "David Lee Roth wants you to know he can eat as many nuts as he wants! Diamond Dave tells TMZ: "I was in Canada only from July first through the fourth for a performance at the Quebec City Summer Festival. I had no encounters or incidents with the police. The only thing I'm allergic to is criticism. -- Love, Dave" A story that circulated earlier this week -- fueled by actual interviews with two Canadian police officers -- claimed cops had to save Dave's life after he went into anaphylactic shock from eating nuts. Dave's rep says he is not allergic to nuts. Good fashion sense? Well, that's another story." Thanks TMZ.com POWERMAN 5000 - REFUSE TO DIE - ANNOUNCE ANOTHER US TOUR.
Does the "5000" means the number of members this band has gone thru'? I can't believe this crap-act is still beating the pavement, trying to sell shows. The band's latest album, "Destroy What You Enjoy", was produced by Mudrock (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, GODSMACK), who also co-produced POWERMAN 5000's major label debut, "Mega!! Kung Fu Radio". The CD was recorded at the Hobby Shop in Eagle Rock, CA and was mixed by Dave Schiffman (AUDIOSLAVE, JOHNNY CASH, SYSTEM OF A DOWN). POWERMAN 5000 last year parted ways with guitarists Johnny Heatley and Terry Corso and replaced them with Evan Rodaniche and Dave Pino. ("Who probably won' be there by the time they roll into town")
POWERMAN 5000 will embark on a U.S. tour in January/February. Confirmed dates are as follows: Thanks P5000 Myspace. "WIBUMBA METAL & HARD ROCK ALMANAC" - FRIDAY, JULY 11/08. "ON THIS DAY" 2003 . . These guys have been pimping this disc for almost a year, so it's about fucking time they got off the pot & released this shit. If you call yourself "METAL", you'll be at the doors 9:00 am for this disc. Lightyear Entertainment will release of the award-winning and critically acclaimed music documentary "Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal" on September 16, 2008. The film covers the evolution, cultural impact, and musical influence of thrash metal , an extreme form of heavy metal which burst on to the scene in the early-to-mid-1980s. Told first-hand by members of bands such as METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX, as well as using raw, original show footage, writer/director Rick Ernst (MTV, VH1) demonstrates how and why many of these bands emerged from playing local parties and small clubs to headlining major arenas and stadiums. The film is a roller coaster ride of extreme music and personalities, starting with the most famous thrash metal pioneers METALLICA and highlighting other genre defining bands like MEGADETH, SLAYER, EXODUS and more. The documentary features interviews with over 50 artists, including past and current members of METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, SLAYER, PANTERA, EXODUS, LAMB OF GOD, TESTAMENT, SHADOWS FALL, IN FLAMES, KREATOR, DESTRUCTION, HATEBREED and many more. The artists discuss the groundbreaking music of the thrash metal scene, the culture surrounding it and includes raw, live concert footage depicting mosh pits, stage diving, head-banging, partying and the over-the-top antics that went along with the thrash metal movement. The movie breaks down how the thrash metal scene grew from its DIY beginnings in Los Angeles and San Francisco, then reached the East Coast, conquered Europe, and even took root in countries like Brazil and Australia. "Get Thrashed" highlights the similarities and differences in each region while illustrating how the seeds that were planted by thrash metal gave rise to the modern day breed of extreme heavy metal and hard rock. The film features wall-to-wall music from METALLICA, MEGADETH, PANTERA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, EXODUS, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES and many more, and contains over 90 minutes of bonus footage, featuring thrash scenes and bands from around the world. THE REALLY DISTURBING TRUTH - "DECENT METAL ACTS ON "ROADRUNNER, NEED NICKLEBACK ON THE LABEL".
The guys over at Metalsucks.com bring this disturbing, but true report on "Why Roadrunner Records & Its 'Good Metal Acts'.......Need Nickleback" Metalsucks.com: "News of Nickelback’s all-encompassing deal with touring behemoths Live Nation is all over the Internet. “Fuck Nickelback,” I hear you say. Touche. But let’s read between the lines here: Nickelback, quite honestly, are a large part of the reason that Roadrunner Records is able to continue to release records by other, less-sucky acts. Simply put, Nickelback’s 7 million records sold fund every 100,000 to 200,000-selling release by other Roadrunner bands we like, such as Killswitch Engage, Machine Head, Opeth, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Biffy Clyro, Life of Agony, Trivium, Soufly, etc etc etc etc. Get it? The fact of the matter is, Nickelback leaving Roadrunner is actually BAD news for the metal community, as hard as this is to believe. Love them or hate them, Roadrunner definitely sits atop the metal label throne, and what’s bad for Roadrunner is bad for metal. And this is most certainly bad for Roadrunner. The good news is that Roadrunner still has Nickelback under contract for two more records, so we can reasonably expect these two albums and subsequent touring cycles to last approximately five years. Sweet. Wait, what the fuck… did I really just say that?" (RANK - "God... ...after reading that... ..I need a really big motherf@#king drink") Thanks Metalsucks.com BUCKCHERRY - RELEASE VIDEO FOR "TOO DRUNK TO F@#K".
Deciding that crapping out tunage for the "bar-star scene" was a whole lot better than construction work, Josh Todd & Co have released another track aimed at the ....."4 drinks in & is'thnt thisshh a grate songg" crowd. BUCKCHERRY has released a "dirty viral video" for its new song "Too Drunk…". Watch it RIGHT HERE "Too Drunk…" made its way online late last week, with evidence suggesting that it was an intentional "leak" by the band's management. The track is a BUCKCHERRY original and not a cover of the notorious tune "Too Drunk to Fuck" by hardcore act the DEAD KENNEDYS. BUCKCHERRY revealed late last week that the band's new album, titled "Black Butterfly", will be released on September 23. The title of the band's last effort, "15", was taken from the amount of days it took the group to record the CD. Singer Josh Todd told The Pulse of Radio that the band had a different reason for choosing "Black Butterfly". "We just thought it was a great iconic image, " he said. "It was actually one of the songs that didn't make the record that we really liked. I've kind of been obsessed with butterflies lately and we just wanted to have, like, kind of an iconic image like we did on our first record, 'cause we always loved that first record cover, you know, and we've been trying to beat it since we started making records, you know." "Black Butterfly" will arrive almost a month earlier in Japan, on August 27. BUCKCHERRY is currently on the road with MÖTLEY CRÜE's Crüe Fest tour, which stops on Wednesday (July 9) in Darien Center, New York. BUCKCHERRY released "15" just over two years ago, beginning a comeback that saw the band play 300 shows and sell over one million copies of the record. Thanks Blabb. PROG-MASTERS, DREAM THEATER - ANNOUNCE "CHAOS IN MOTION" DVD RELEASE IN SEPT'.
Dream Theater's travelogue of their most recent touring experience hits shelves on September 23. "Chaos In Motion 2007/2008" will be available in two configurations: as a double DVD set and as five disc collector's set which includes two DVDs and three CDs, containing 14 live tracks featured in the DVD set and expanded artwork. The DVD documents their "Chaos In Motion" world tour, which kicked off June 3, 2007 at the Monsters of Rock festival in Milan, Italy and concluded almost a year to the day later on June 4, 2008 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The "Chaos in Motion" tour was a trek that found the band traversing the globe, playing 115 shows in 105 cities in 35 countries on five continents to hundreds of thousands of fans. It also included the first annual "Progressive Nation" tour, an idea that the band had kicked around for a few years and finally launched into action this past spring. "Chaos In Motion 2007/2008" is the latest in a series of DVDs from the band and it features performances captured throughout the entirety of the tour, unlike their last three RIAA-certified platinum DVDs, "Metropolis 2000: Live Scenes From New York", "Live at Budokan" and "Score", all of which focused on as single concert event. Thanks Blabb. EX-CELTIC FROST'S TOM FISCHER CONTINUED MOANING - MORPHING HIM INTO A DRAMA-QUEEN!
Ok Tom, we got it the first time But with your flowery prose & constant bitching............. Even for die-hard Frost/Ficsher fans... ..it's gotten unbearable. Case in point? Read Toms last blog: "Success breeds arrogance and, in some cases, boundless self-importance. A mechanism which appears even more preposterous if the attention in question predates a particular person's presence to a major extent and is thus largely borrowed in lieu of being proprietary. "Such conceit. Such ignorance. Such lack of composure and self-restraint. "As I discover almost daily when faced with the aftermath of what has been destroyed and what has been said and done subsequently, I will find it exceptionally difficult to ever exonerate the one I hold largely responsible for what happened and for what transpired after it happened. Even now, thinking of CELTIC FROST and the group's final months leaves me feeling physically sick, when it should really be a sense of joy, accomplishment, and pride. "Yes, my sentiments about this might be described as 'intense.' In the face of what so often was severe adversity, especially during the early years, if it hadn't been for such intensity there would have never been a HELLHAMMER nor a CELTIC FROST in the first place. No surprise, no apologies. I am intense. And so was my attachment to this utterly unique group named CELTIC FROST and to what it stood for." (RANK - "Get over the fucking thing. The best revenge, is to live Very Well, Tommy") Thanks The Gauntlet. "WIBUMBA--METAL & HARD ROCK ALMANAC" - THURSDAY, JULY 10/08. "ON THIS DAY" 1998 . . Finally, the "Official" Slipknot artwork for "All Hope Is Gone" has surfaced. Yesterday a cover came up, that turned out to be just the iTunes version. Disturbed's pathetic recent cover, proves the labels will throw anything out there.
The final artwork for the new SLIPKNOT album, "All Hope Is Gone", can be viewed, to the left. Thanks Blabb. MOTORHEAD FRONTMAN ACCUSED OF DISPLAYING 'NAZI INSIGNIA'.
Lemmy lets loose the the stuffy Conservatives............ And lets em' have it: An investigation has reportedly been launched into whether MOTÖRHEAD frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister committed a crime under German law by wearing what appears to be a NazI cap in a recently published photo. The picture in question, which can be seen to the left, appeared in a German newspaper prior to the band's July 5, 2008 "Wacken Rocks Seaside" concert in Aurich, Germany with MACHINE HEAD and SAXON. Speaking to the New York Waste web site, Lemmy stated about his NazI collection, "I don't only collect NazI stuff, I collect objects from all the 'axis countries.' When asked where he gets the objects he collects, Lemmy replied, "The USA is a great place for collecting that shit, 'cause the GIs took everything back to America. They took fucking warehouses full of uniforms, Mercedes staff cars. One guy shipped a Focke Wulf 190 fighter home in pieces and rebuilt it in America. Now he owns the only fucking FW 190 in the world. I used to buy a couple of things in Germany, but now you can't take anymore knifes or things back home in a plane. And it's become more relaxed to buy stuff like that [in Germany]. There's five or six stores in Hamburg especially. They're advertising it. What's the point, anyway? It's not a nationalistic kind of thing, I mean, what the fuck you're gonna do? Pretend it never happened? There's airplane model kits of Messerschmidt 109 fighters. Shouldn't you touch them?" On the subject of whether people should wear uniforms, Lemmy stated, "I'll tell you something about history. From the beginning of time, the bad guys always had the best uniforms. Napoleon, the Confederates, the Nazis. They all had killer uniforms. I mean, the SS uniform is fucking brilliant! They were the rock stars of that time. What you're gonna do? They just look good. Don't tell me, I'm a NazI 'cause I have uniforms. In 1967 I had my first black girlfriend and a lot of more ever since then. I just don't understand racism, I never thought it was an option." Thanks Blabb. SWEDEN'S DOOM-MASTERS, 'KATATONIA' - VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH THE BAND HERE.

The "super jewelcase" packaging features both the audio on CD and the show on DVD (including both 2.0 and 5.1 versions). The artwork was once again designed by Travis Smith and closes the visual concept for "The Great Cold Distance" phase. There's been talk of all kinds of odd things, because the record industry changes every day. We've talked about maybe putting out a couple of songs from an upcoming record through iTunes, so we can play something new on the Unholy Alliance III tour. You know, that's not so far outside the realm of possibility. As far as how much we're gonna get done by the end of the year? I have no idea. . . Jeff [Hanneman, guitar] has a couple of things [written for the next album]. I've got ideas that I've never finished, so I wanna get back to working on those. Some of them are really cool. I don't know how this guy can do it. He's 57, plagued by Ankylosing Spondylitis, & reportedly on Crue's last tour, only left his bed to play the gig. According to Contact Music, MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mick Mars is a prisoner of his own home when he's not on the road with his band — because a debilitating form of arthritis has left him unable to drive anywhere. Mars was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) when he was 19 and reveals the degenerative disease has left him unable to move his head. He tells Blender magazine, "If I could go places I would, but I'm stuck. This stuff I have won't allow me to move my head, so I can't drive. It's quite an inconvenience." And the aging rocker, who is believed to be 57 years old, reveals his condition is shrinking him. He adds, "This AS crap has shrunk me down really small. I used to be almost five-foot-nine, and I'm just a little over five-three now. It stinks... I'm just squashed." Thanks Metal Den. NORWAY VILLAGE MAYOR - "MURDERER 'VARG', IS WELCOME IN OUR VILLAGE".
Before you think what a great guy Varg (Burzum) is................ Check this out from Blabbermouth poster annarocket, who found an old quote from Varg: From the book "Lords Of Chaos:The Bloody Rise Of The Satanic Metal Underground": Varg Vikernes:"He died from one stab to the head.I actually had to knock the knife out." Now it seems the town of Bo, Norway, digs murderers for citizens. The mayor of Bø, a municipality in the county of Telemark, Norway, has told the Norwegian newspaper Telemarksavisa that he was pleasantly surprised by the news that Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) — has chosen to take up residence in the village. Vikernes has purchased a small farm in Bø, where he will move in with his family after he finishes serving his sentence. "We want Varg Vikernes to feel welcome in Bø and we expect that he is going to establish a normal life here, " Mayor Arne Storhaug said. "Of course, I have my own thoughts on what Varg Vikernes has done, but once he has completed his sentence, he is welcome to start afresh here. We want to open the door to all those who wish to live in Bø and this includes Vikernes. We will, of course, expect that he, like everyone else, will follow the rules. These are serious crimes that he has committed, but at the same time, we will do whatever we can to make it possible for Vikernes and his family to build a new life here." Kids... ........this is what you get for playing "EMO". It's bad for your health. This crew should change their name to "The Day My Eye-Sight Vanished". According to Scotsman.com, the bass player for the Edinburgh, United Kingdom-based "emo-esque metal" band THE DAY I VANISHED (MySpace page) has gone partially blind after headbanging too much at a gig. Richard Allan, 21, felt his eyesight go blurry after his show on Friday night and assumed he had been dazzled by stage lights. But the bass player had actually torn his retina as he jumped around the stage to his band's tunes. Now Allan faces emergency surgery and the possibility of wearing an eye patch. He said: "I guess I do go a bit mental at gigs, we all leap about the place and headbang because we love our music, but I never thought it would make me start to go blind. I was at the bar after the gig and noticed things were blurry, and thought I'd maybe been looking at a light for too long. At hospital the next day they said I'd need an operation, which is a massive shock as I've never had a proper operation before. But I'm made of tough enough stuff to get through it." # 8 July: Thanks Metalsucks.com RED, HOT "ROCK/ALTERNATIVE RELEASES" - FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 08/08.
Here's whats new in the Rock/Alt bins this week:
7/08/2008 "JUDAS PRIEST/HIGH ON FIRE & DEICIDE" DUDES - LIST THEIR "ESSENTIAL METAL" ALBUMS.
Rob Halford citing Kiss as "essential Metal"??? Start loading up on the Ginko Biloba, Metal God! Suite101.com, recently had a chin-wag with JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford, DEICIDE's Steve Asheim and HIGH ON FIRE's Matt Pike pick their essential metal albums Matt Pike from HIGH ON FIRE on "Black Sabbath" by BLACK SABBATH: "They're probably my favorite heavy metal band ever so I would have to say 'Black Sabbath' by BLACK SABBATH. It's the most essential album that anyone could f***ing have in their catalogue because it was like the birth of all that was heavy. We borrowed a lot from SABBATH in SLEEP but, y'know, they put this monster out there and it was probably inevitable that others were going to try to take a piece of it for themselves." Steve Asheim from DEICIDE on "Killers" by IRON MAIDEN: "I don't know if it's the best metal album ever made but the metal record I look upon most fondly would be IRON MAIDEN's 'Killers'. It's just a great, great record and it brings me back to those early days. That was the first of that new wave of metal that I was exposed to — before that it was all KISS and SABBATH. For me as a drummer listening to Clive Burr's playing, it was very in your face and precise and well executed straight-ahead metal. JUDAS PRIEST had the riffs and the twin guitar stuff but they still used a rock style of drumming, whereas Clive Burr was just laying in there heavy-duty and that's what caught my attention." Rob Halford from JUDAS PRIEST on "Reign In Blood" by SLAYER: "I love that record. It's a style of metal that I really like and I just love the attitude. It's really, really intense and potent — it's like listening to music on fire." Thanks Suite 101.com DID BUCKCHERRY LEAK THEIR OWN TRACK? & BLAME THE PUBLIC?
Read the bands statement below, and it's not hard to see whats been done here. Blabbermouth reports: Last week someone emailed us a torrent link to a new Buckcherry song, but we never post such links (or even legal links because of the asshats at ASCAP). Soon after, the band issued a statement hyping the "leak" and provided a link to it. Was it an intended leak? A publicity stunt? Take your guess. Here is their statement:" We're out on the road again, and just played a killer first show on Crüe Fest 2008 in West Palm Beach, Florida! It's come to our attention that one of the tracks off our new album has leaked out on the net. Honestly, we hate it when this shit happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first. For "Too Drunk...'. We're gonna go try and find time over the next few days to make a down and dirty video for it. Enjoy the new song and we're looking forward to putting out the new album in a couple of months! " Thanks Antimusic/Blabb. IN FLAMES, 'BJORN GELOTTE' - AUDIO INTERVIEW ON BAND'S AVERSION TO PLAYING "OLDER MATERIAL".
If you caught In Flames recently on this years Gigantour, you probably noticed everything they played was off of "Reroute To Remain" (2002) or newer. Would've been killer to hear "Bullet Ride" from the Clayman disc. Guitarist Björn Gelotte of the Swedish metal band IN FLAMES was interviewed for this week's edition of the "The Governor's Ball". Gelotte talks about "haters and holes, and about why they don’t play too much older material live, " according to a press release. So if you can stomach The Govenor's cheesy, 3-rate Arnold schitck... ..You can download the program by clicking IN Flames' Bjorn interview IN FLAMES will embark on a European headlining tour in October. Support on the trek will come from SONIC SYNDICATE and GOJIRA. IN FLAMES's new album, "A Sense of Purpose", shifted 20,000 copies in the United States during its first week of release. This is slightly less than the opening tally of "Come Clarity" (Ferret), which sold just under 24,000 copies in February 2006 to debut at position No. 58. Thanks Blabb. 80'S HAIR-QUEENS, 'WARRANT" - THROW 'COMEBACK SHOW' UNDER THE BUS IN NEVADA, SATURDAY NIGHT.
Like hearing a bunch of washed-up fat balding slobs doing horrible versions of horrible songs is supposed to be a treat in the first place. Check the wreck out here, WATCH WARRANT CRAP OUT Reactivated '80s hard rockers WARRANT apparently played a less-than-stellar show last night (Saturday, July 5) at the Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson, Nevada, with one person who attended the concert describing vocalist JanI Lane's performance as "embarrassing" and "painful to watch." The following are excerpts from two separate reviews of last night's gig: Brad KereszturI of Sleaze Roxx: "I could tell something was amiss before the show started when I noticed Jerry Dixon [bass], standing at the rear of the stage, looking bothered to be there. At one point I watched JanI walk up to him and Jerry shook his head and walked away. Steven Sweet [drums] was also there and wouldn't even look at Jani. "Finally the music started with 'Down Boys'. The crowd was into it and the energy was intense. Then JanI came out. The vocals were out of pitch and about a half beat off the rest of the music. I thought, 'please, let there be some kind of delay in his ear monitors that's throwing him off.' Then I watched his right hand holding the microphone shaking badly. Shaking to the point I thought for sure he would drop it. Joey Allen [guitar] and Erik Turner [guitar] were trying to help JanI catch up by singing into his ear. This was painful to watch." Mark Lewis of Rock Over America: "[Jani] was very obviously under the influence of something tonight, and I do not know if he even knew where he was performing. It tore me up to witness this, and I started to wonder what had happened to him to cause this. He was on 'Celebrity Fit Club' not too long ago and seemed to being doing really great, with all demons conquered. This was not the JanI Lane that I remember from the 'Cherry Pie' days. This was not the JanI Lane who recorded a new song a few years back called 'The Jones'. This is a side of JanI Lane that I never would have imagined I would see. As I sit here still shocked by what I witnessed tonight, I can only hope and pray that tonight is a wake-up call for him to deal with whatever has brought him to this point, so that he can once again regain his former glory as a great lead singer of a great band." Thanks Sleaze Roxx. TRIVIUM - REVEAL "SHOGUN" TRACKLISTING.
Safe to say, with this disc, it'll be sounding like "James Hetfield meets Children Of Bodom". Florida metallers TRIVIUM have finalized the track listing for their new album, "Shogun", which is scheduled for release on September 30 via Roadrunner Records.
"Shogun" track listing: Vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy is thrilled with the album, saying, "We made a cohesive, epic metal album that combines all of the ingredients of everything we feel we have ever done 'right' musically, while adding a new direction that the music called for. We had so much fun creating this album and hope our fans feel that energy when they listen." (TRANSLATION: "We sound more like Children Of Bodom, than ever!") Thanks Roadrunner.com THE HAUNTED'S, PETE DOLVING - ISSUE'S UPDATE ON BAND'S NEW ALBUM, FILM & US TOUR PLANS.
Swedish thrashers THE HAUNTED recently completed work on their new album for a September 2008 release via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded in part at PUK studio in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (HEAVEN SHALL BURN, DARK TRANQUILLITY, MOONSPELL, etc). Commented vocalist Peter Dolving: "We got some mad shows coming up in the fall. And a few good tours. At the moment we are not looking at coming over to the U.S. until after the New Year, but this is the most perverted industry next to guns and oil, so anything can still happen. Hopefully we'll see as many of you as possible at Wacken or any of the shows that we've made official so far. "The record will be released in September, but you already knew that, right? I can't say a hell of a lot more at the moment because it's all record company preparing their stuff for the best way to present what's coming. We played it to our friends from MACHINE HEAD and SOILWORK in Madrid a couple of weeks back and their response was pretty much 'FUCK!' then they went out and put on immense shows. "Oh! Anders [Björler, guitar] pretty much finished a movie about, well — us, kinda. Mostly it's about living in transit and being five dudes in a cult metal band. Don't really know if it's going to be released or not but I've seen it and it makes it pretty clear that THE HAUNTED are a pretty weird group of people. I like it. "So that's what's cooking right now. For anyone who was at the Peace and Love festival in Borlänge, you know we're ripped and ready to go, just gotta wait a little and take it easy." Dolving previously stated about the group's new material, "It sounds fucking ridiculously heavy. It's all got a heavier groovier feel to to it than anything we've done before. I mean, even some of the new songs that are in the vein of 'Hate Song' or '99' just sound waaay heavier, for some reason. I have to leave the mixing room 'cause I get so jacked on adrenaline, 'cause it makes me want to break shit. And that is somehow a good thing." Thanks Pete Dolving Blog. BURZUM'S, VARG VIKERNES - STILL WHINING TO BE LET OUT OF JAIL!

Rot in the joint ya prick. However, Varg says: "I'm ready for society — and I have been for many years, " Vikernes told the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet in a brand new interview which was published today (July 6). "I have learned from my mistakes and become older. Now I just want to be together with my family. My mind has never been in prison: I think all the time about what I should do on the day that I am released." The web site of Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who is currently serving a Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) — has been updated with the following message: "Although Varg has been denied parole, he is allowed to leave the prison for a while to walk around Tromsø [Norway: where the prison is located] and visit his family: his mother, his wife, a one-year-old son and a fifteen-year-old daughter. Varg's wife is now pregnant and they both are waiting for an addition to the family. Varg owns a small farm in Telemark (Norway), where he is planning to move as soon as he leaves the prison." Of all the bands I hate.......Velvet Revolver, My Chemical Romance, Hatebreed, Fallout Boy................ Nothing even comes close to my hugantic loathing for Dragonforce! Kerrang! magazine recently spoke to DRAGONFORCE guitarists Herman LI and Sam Totman about the group's forthcoming album, "Ultra Beatdown". Watch the five-minute chat below. DRAGONFORCE has posted a new song, "Heroes Of Our Time", on its MySpace page. The track comes off "Ultra Beatdown", which is scheduled for release on August 25 via Roadrunner Records. "Ultra Beatdown" track listing:
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, DRAGONFORCE guitarist Sam Totman stated about the group's new material, "It's not going to be majorly different. But hopefully the melodies will be nicer, the guitar solos will be better, the production will be better. You just try to improve in every area." Vocalist ZP Theart added, "There isn't much to change, but yet there is. The last three albums have been very much guitar-orientated, and this one probably will be as well, but I want to try to do some extra coloring in with the vocals." Thanks Blabb. Whats NOT being said here... ..is why he's selling this beauty of an axe. However you don't need a IQ off more than 35 to realize this guys gonna need some MAJOR cash for his army of lawyers to keep him outa of the joint. .............and enough for a case of vaseline. CANDLEMASS guitarist Mats "Mappe" Björkman is selling the white "Candlemass skull" Gibson Les Paul Junior guitar that he used on the band's Grammis award-winning (Swedish Grammy equivalent) comeback album in 2005. The axe, which was also used at a number of live shows that year, comes with a Seymour Duncan Invader microphone plus the original mic. The buyer will also get a signed photo with Mappe and the guitar. The guitar will be auctioned via eBay beginning on July 31. Björkman was sentenced in March 2008 to two years in a Swedish prison for grand theft. He was convicted of stealing CDs worth approximately $490,000 from the distribution warehouse of Entertainment Network Scandinavia AB, where he and an accomplice shipped the CDs to Stockholm retail outlets. In a recent interview with Metal-Rules.com, CANDLEMASS bassist/main songwriter Leif Edling addressed Mats' current legal status, explaining, "There will be a hearing when he comes back from [the recently completed U.S.] tour, but it was totally OK for him to go on tour and things in the papers have been so exaggerated. I feel really sorry for him. It's really unfair to him, what's been said in the papers and on the Internet. I'm pretty convinced, you know, nothing will come out of this. He will be totally freed and we can go on and record the album and continue with CANDLEMASS. I don't see a problem there. If there was a problem, he wouldn't be allowed to go on tour. He wouldn't be allowed to go abroad. That's how it is, you know." In an April 2008 interview with Sweden Rock magazine, Mats commented on his theft conviction by saying, "I am not a criminal, but sure, just like I've sold some CDs, I've helped [Mats' alleged accomplice] sell CDs. But these are CDs that I've been given or gotten through my dealings within the music business. It's not a secret that record label people in Stockholm sell boxes of CDs to different stores, but it's nothing people like to talk about." POISONBLACK drummer Tarmo Kanerva previously stated about the new material, "On one hand, there is going to be some really melodic songs, and on the other hand, the heavy stuff is heavier than anything we have ever done before. In fact, we will be awarding certain folks (at every show) the chance to be interviewed on camera about what our music and message means to YOU and that footage will be included on the DVD. So if you ever thought about breaking free from the cocoon, butterfly, now is the (fucking) time. "Those that come in costume (blood pigs, ghostflowers, pit bosses), those that come in body paint (TAO), those that leave the natural world behind and embrace the bohemian mindscape, will not only have a chance at being included on the DVD but will also have a chance at a PRIVATE meet-and-greet with the band. "I am so very excited about this moment and I am happy to share it with you." Thanks Otep Myspace. DROWNING POOL - "WE MET OBAMA, BUT HILLARY WOULDN'T MEET WITH US".
Drowning Pool's a band thats had a lot of shitty luck (gear ripped off) mediocre material, a current crappy singer, but have amazed a fair whack of people for sticking it out this long. When they should've packed it in long ago. Shelly Harris of KNAC.COM recently conducted an interview with DROWNING POOL. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow. KNAC.COM: Which leads me to ask: Do you consider yourselves to be a “political” band? Ryan McCombs (vocals): Nope! Stevie Benton (bass): Hell, no! (laughs) KNAC.COM: Well, it's interesting, because it was noted in the media at the time that that [performing for the troops in Iraq] was a patriotic thing to do — which it is — but are you saying that you don't really want to get into the political aspect of it? Because sometimes people think when you support the troops, you also support the war over there, but of course it doesn't necessarily mean that at all. And, either way you fall on it, it can be considered a form of patriotism, really. And there's also the fact that you met up with Obama … Ryan McCombs: Uh-humm. Yeah, we met Obama, and we tried to meet Hillary too, but she wouldn't meet with us. She'd meet with the people that had suits and ties on that were with us, but, as soon as she saw the tattooed people comin' at her, she took off. All of a sudden she had a meeting to go to. Stevie Benton: Seriously, we're not a political band at all. We had our one cause to help out the troops, and to work on that for a long time, but that was our only issue. I'll publicly say that we're all for Obama in the election, of course. But, other than that, we don't get onstage and preach politics or get all wrapped up in it. I just think that, once you start down that path, it weighs the fans down. I want to go to a rock show to have fun, and to forget about all that bullshit! I don't want to be preached to onstage, you know? Just a good time kind of thing is more our aspect. Thanks KNAC.com BILLY CORGAN - LANDS HIS NAME ON FENDER GUITAR'S 'ARTIST SERIES' LINE.

The only reason this is top of the pile................. Is cus' YOU, the reader says it should be so. If you read "Buck's" K.Nelson's comments below about the bands he's touring with, you might begin to feel a bit like me. "That poor f@#ker has no goddamned clue what GOOD Rock is all about". They can't even come up with an original name for the first single off the album. BUCKCHERRY's management company, 10th Street Entertainment, has given BLABBERMOUTH.NET permission to post links to a "leaked" version of the band's new song, which appears to be titled "Too Drunk to Fuck" (not to be confused with the DEAD KENNEDYS classic of the same name). The track is expected to appear on the group's forthcoming album, "Black Butterfly", which is tentatively due on September 23. The Japanese version of the CD — the artwork for which can be viewed below — will apparently arrive on August 27. BUCKCHERRY's "Too Drunk to Fuck": CLICK HERE
BUCKCHERRY has set "Black Butterfly" as the title of its new album, which is expected to be released on September 23. The Japanese version of the CD — the artwork for which can be viewed below — will apparently arrive on August 27. BUCKCHERRY released "15" just over two years ago, beginning a comeback that saw the band play 300 shows, sell over one million copies of the record, and earn five hit singles after being all but defunct five years ago. BUCKCHERRY has just kicked off "Crüe Fest, " the summer-long package tour headlined by MÖTLEY CRÜE. Keith Nelson told The Pulse of Radio a few weeks ago why he was looking forward to the trek. "MÖTLEY CRÜE is really one of those bands that I think is so ahead of the curve, " he said. "For us to be out on the road with them with this package I think is really cool because you're getting a lot of different rock bands. You're getting a band like us, which I don't think there's anything out there quite like us, and you're getting a band like PAPA ROACH, which I think is probably the best band of the early new millenium bands. Throw in TRAPT, who's great, who's had a lot of success, and the SIXX: A.M. guys, and it's just, it is a rock 'n' roll festival." Thanks Blabb. 7 YEARS LATER - FLAMING LIPS COMPLETE "CHRISTMAS ON MARS" FILM.
Should be a good flick to sit on down & spark a bat the size of a log to. After more than seven years in the making, the Flaming Lips film, Christmas On Mars, has finally been completed. The flick stars bandmates Michael Ivans and frontman Wayne Coyne as alien super-heroes, and will no doubt feature the same sort of quirky, eccentric concepts the Oklahoma quartet houses in their music. Coyne and co. are currently screening the film at several local and international music festivals, including the recent Sasquatch Fest, with hopes for a public release in time for the holiday season. Additionally, the band has a brand new track titled "Cosmic Trigger 2" that will be featured on the soundtrack for Okie Noodling II out on DVD July 14. Don't forget to catch The Flaming Lips paying homage to The Who on VH1 Rock Honors July 17. Thanks Filter Mag. MONSTER MAGNET - EUROPEAN DATES ANNOUNCED.

The hysterical thing about this... ..is both of these idiots are black!! In case you care... ....GCH frontman, Travis McCoy's been addicted to junk since he was 15. He's just completed 2 tours of duty in rehab. So who knows how much of a grasp on reality this bozo had. On Tuesday, at the Maryland Heights, Missouri, stop of this summer's Warped Tour, Gym Class Heroes lead singer Travis McCoy was arrested and charged with third-degree assault after he allegedly struck a member of the audience in the head with his microphone. According to Rolling Stone, the audience member near the front row called McCoy a "f ing ignorant n er." McCoy reportedly responded by asking the man to repeat what he'd said as security personnel attempted to remove the man from the venue. McCoy then reportedly reached down and struck him in the head with his microphone. Police spokesman Sgt. Joseph Eagan did confirm that the incident was racially motivated, but added that the alleged victim "and the artist are of the same race." The band's manager, Bob McLynn, released a statement Wednesday afternoon that reads: "Somebody in the crowd was taunting Travis with racial slurs. Travis invited him onstage with the intent of calling him out in front of the crowd, with absolutely no intention of a physical altercation. When he tried to help him onstage, the guy hit Travis in the knee area (which has been in a brace because of a recent sprain), forcing Travis to defend himself. At this point, a scuffle broke out. Sgt. Joseph Eagan said "The prosecutor handling the case decided there was enough information to warrant a charge, " he said. The charge for municipal, or common assault, is a misdemeanor and carries no jail time, but will result in a fine to be determined by the judge if McCoy is found guilty. At 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, Eagan said McCoy's attorneys had not yet contacted police about the warrant. Thanks Rollingstone. TOTALLY USELESS MUSIC NEWS?? - SCOTT WEILAND'S RELEASING HIS SECOND SOLO ALBUM IN OCTOBER.
The Pulse of Radio reports that STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist Scott Weiland has set October 7 as the release date for his yet-to-be-titled second solo album, according to Absolute Punk. Weiland has been working on the project for several years and will issue it through his own label, Softdrive Records. The record will follow up his 1998 solo debut, "12 Bar Blues", and Weiland told The Pulse of Radio the new one is a natural progression. "It'll definitely be a sonic journey like the first album was, a little bit more focused since I'm not on a narcotic journey like I was on the last one. But, you know, still sort of all over the map, because my influences are so wide and varied." STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunited in April for a major summer tour after a six-year hiatus. The band rose to stardom in the 1990s, but its career was derailed by Weiland's drug problems and arrests. Weiland spent a month in rehab earlier this year, following an arrest last November on a DUI charge. The singer and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS drummer Eric Kretz were recently sued by the group's label, Atlantic Records, who allege that the pair have issued threats to stop performing unless their recording contract is changed. The 'Bible lesson' things creepier than Manson will ever be. Or will Manson try to one-up the old man by giving 'book of Mormon' lessons? Christ, where will this end................ "Beck" giving Scientology/Dianetics studies by mail? Shock rocker Alice Cooper is not a bad boy at heart - he occasionally teaches Bible lessons at his local church. The reformed wild child, real name Vincent Furnier, dons menacing face paint when he hits the stage for a concert, but insists he is far from intimidating when he attends his weekly church service. He says, "I go to Bible study on Wednesday mornings - I even teach sometimes - but I'll still get up on stage and be much scarier than Marilyn Manson." And he has no problem balancing his religion with his career path - because he doesn't swear. He adds, "It doesn't mean that, as a Christian, you can't be a rocker or an entertainer. It's your lifestyle. I never use bad language. That's not gentlemanly. Alice might slit your throat but he'd never use the F word." A brand new ALICE COOPER track, Vengeance Is Mine, is available for streaming on his MYSPACE PAGE The song comes off the rock legend's forthcoming album, "Along Came A Spider", due on July 29 via SPV Records. "A dark and menacing album for dark and menacing times" is perhaps the most fitting description for Alice's 25th studio album overall, as a chilling conceptual thread runs through the songs, which are told through the voice of a serial killer named Spider — one that Alice describes as "an arachnophobic psychopath" (in the song "Catch Me If You Can"). Alice, the master storyteller, weaves a web of danger, intrigue and death that rivals his best work. Thanks The Gauntlet. WIBUMBA--METAL & HARD ROCK ALMANAC - THURSDAY, JULY 03/08. 0News Slab: Prime news cuts from the metal and rock worldWEDNESDAY, JULY 02/08: - AC/DC'S NEW ALBUM TITLE - RUMOURED TO BE "BLACK ICE"?
They should call it ... "Black Ass" instead............ And put Oprah Winfrey's big shitter on the cover. Paul Cashmere of Undercover News reports that legendary Australian hard rockers AC/DC have three titles that they are considering for for their upcoming album, including "Black Ice" (which is said to be "a frontrunner at the moment") and "Runaway Train". Danny Keenan of AC/DC's Australian record label Albert Music told Undercover News that a decision on the CD title will be made in the next week. Albert Music CEO Tim Prescott will head to New York for meetings over the AC/DC release next week. Danny Keenan told Undercover News that he has heard half the album but did not hear a song called "Black Ice". If it is being used as a title track, then it may have been one of the later tracks recorded for the album. AC/DC's first album in eight years is tentatively due in October and is expected to be followed by a world tour. Sony BMG recently revealed that the disc will be sold exclusively through Wal-Mart stores, which has caused controversy with critics and fans. The album was recorded in Canada at Bryan Adams' studio with producer Brendan O'Brien (AUDIOSLAVE, PEARL JAM, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, VELVET REVOLVER). Thanks Undercover News.com 'DRUM!' Maybe the CD isn’t a dying format after all. Actually, fuck that, the CD is definitely in its death throes. But at least for one week the inevitable has been delayed, and some rock records actually moved serious tonnage. Motley Crue and Shinedown both debuted in the Top 10, Disturbed continued their inevitable march towards gold (and then platinum) at #9, and Kid Rock continued his rampage back up the charts to reach #12. THE "MOTLEY MYSTERY" - HOW THE HELL DID "SAINTS" LAND IN THE TOP 5 BILLBOARD CHART DEBUT?
I can't figure this shit out. A washed up old 80's Hair-band, .that should be dead, in the top 5 of Billboards charts. The Gauntlet gives us this report on the Crue: With an impressive first week, legendary ("washed up") rock band Mötley Crüe earned themselves an impressive ("Ya gotta be kidding me") top 5 debut their highest since 1997's Generation Swine on the Billboard chart with Saints Of Los Angeles, their first new album featuring the original lineup in over a decade. The album, inspired ("ripping themselves off") by their NY Times best-selling book The Dirt is an example of how forward thinking, integrated marketing ("ripping gullible kids off") and an acclaimed CD can support sales in a lagging music industry. ("a dying horse") The single, 'Saints of Los Angeles,' which remains a top ten rock track was released simultaneously via the video game Rock Band (a Crüe Fest partner) and to traditional retailers and sold over five times the number of downloads on Rock Band as it did on iTunes in its first week.(" & Prong sold only 4500 copies, Us 1st week") The band has also pioneered digital initiatives including online pre-sales (they were one of the first bands to sell tickets online): simulcasting their press conference on therockvine.com and offering fans exclusive content on their website, ( "a real prize") motley.com for years. Plans include continued digital initiatives and special ring tone availability. Saints of Los Angeles features NikkI Sixx, Mick Mars, Tommy Lee and Vince Neil ("And vince's wig") and is their ninth studio album in a 27 year career which has seen the most notorious ("Hyped") band in rock & roll sell over 80 million albums worldwide so far. Probably means he'll smoke 5 bags of BC Bud... ....instead of 4, while'st recording said album. The Pulse of Radio reports that STAIND frontman Aaron Lewis told MTV.com on Monday (June 30) that the band has taken an experimental approach to its new album, "The Illusion of Progress", due out on August 19. Lewis explained, "We're big on trying not to repeat ourselves, and grow in some way with every record we make. We need to feel, at the end of it, that we made a better one than the last one. I think this is our best record yet — because I'm supposed to feel that way, or else the record wouldn't be done." Lewis told The Pulse of Radio that the band tried to move forward this time by getting different sounds in the studio. "It's a departure from the last record, which I'd like to think was a departure from the record before, and so on and so forth, " he said. "Probably the most musical record that we've made yet. A lot more effect-y experimentation and, you know, a lot more textures with, you know, vintage instruments and vintage amps. There's definitely some different flavors on this record." Lewis told MTV.com that the new disc features elements such as a pedal steel guitar, a gospel choir and "a lot of things that have never really been done on a STAIND record before." The first single from "The Illusion of Progress" is called "Believe". STAIND shot a video for the song last week in Los Angeles. Thanks TPOR.
